The WAEC Igbo Areas Of Concentration 2026/2027 focuses on four main areas: Language (Asụsụ), Literature (Agụmagụ), Culture (Omenala), an Comprehension/Composition. Contents
Paper 1
- Contains 60 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 1 hour (60 marks).
- Divided into three sections:
- Section A (Language): 30 questions covering comprehension, composition, sound system, grammar, and translation.
- Section B (Literature): 22 questions on literary appreciation, oral literature, and written literature (based mainly on set books).
- Section C (Culture): 8 questions on customs and institutions.
Paper 2
- A composition-based paper with three sections: Language, Literature, and Culture.
- Candidates must answer 6 out of 13 questions.
- Duration is 2 hours and it carries 100 marks.

Section A: Essay
- Part I (Composition/Letter Writing): Write one essay (≈300 words) from 5 options (narrative, descriptive, argumentative, expository, dialogue, debate, or letter) in 45 minutes.
- Part II (Sound System): Answer 1 of 2 questions on phonemes, syllable structure, sound processes, tone, and alphabet.
- Part III (Grammar): Answer 1 of 2 questions on spelling, word formation, dialects, loan words, word classes, sentence structure, and punctuation.
Section B: Literature
- Oral Literature: Answer 1 of 3 questions (based on prescribed texts); covers forms like folktales, myths, proverbs, songs, riddles, and drama.
- Written Literature: Answer 1 of 3 questions (based on prescribed texts).
Section C: Culture
- Covers Igbo customs and institutions, including traditions, ceremonies, beliefs, social structures, occupations, and religious practices.
