WAEC Hausa 2 (Essay): Areas Of Concentration 2026/2027

WAEC Hausa 2 (Essay): Areas Of Concentration 2026/202: Based on the WAEC syllabus for 2026–2030, the Hausa 2 (Essay/Composition) paper focuses on testing candidates’ ability to write effectively in Hausa, use correct grammar, and demonstrate creative and functional writing skills. The examination is structured around specific thematic areas and text sets. 

Hausa WAEC Syllabus PAPER 2: 

This will be an essay test, which will also be in three sections: Sections A, B, and C. The rubrics shall be written in Hausa. The paper will take 2 hours and carry 100 marks.

Candidates will be required to answer six questions, as follows: three from Section A, two from Section B, and one from Section C.

Candidates will be required to answer questions in the official Hausa orthography using the appropriate metalanguage.

WAEC Hausa 2 (Essay): Areas Of Concentration 2026/2027

SECTION A: LANGUAGE (Rubutu da Nahawu)

Composition / Letter Writing (Insha’i)

Candidates will write an essay of about 300 words in 45 minutes.

Essay types include:

  • Narrative (Labari)
  • Descriptive (Siffance)
  • Argumentative (Muhawara)
  • Expository (Bayani)
  • Dialogue (Zantawa)
  • Proverb-based (Karin Magana)
  • Letter Writing (Rubutun Wasika)

Sound System (Tsarin Sauti)

One question from two will be set.

Topics include:

  • Consonants and vowels (bakake da wasula)
  • Sound production (lebba, hanci, makogwaro etc.)
  • Syllable structure:
    • CV, CVV, CVC
  • Types of syllables:
    • Open (budaddiya)
    • Closed (rufaffiya)
  • Vowel length (gajeru, dogaye, tagwayen wasula)
  • Tone:
    • High, Low, Falling

Grammar (Nahawu)

One question from two will be set.

Topics include:

Word formation:

  • Root (saiwa)
  • Prefix (dafa goshi)
  • Infix (dafa ciki)
  • Suffix (dafa keya)

Word classes:

  • Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb
  • Pronoun, Conjunction
  • Quantifier, Demonstrative, Ideophone, etc.

Grammar categories:

  • Tenses (past, present, future, habitual, subjunctive, negative)
  • Gender and number

Sentence structure:

  • Subject and predicate
  • Simple sentence
  • Compound sentence
  • Complex sentence

SECTION B: LITERATURE (Adabi)

Candidates answer 2 questions:

  • 1 Oral Literature
  • 1 Written Literature

Oral Literature

  • Prose (Tatsuniya, history, proverbs)
  • Poetry (Wakar baka)
  • Drama (Gargajiya plays)

Written Literature

  • Prose (Zube)
  • Poetry (Rubutattun wakoki)
  • Drama (Wasan kwaikwayo)

SECTION C: CULTURE (Al’adu)

Candidates answer 1 question from 2

Topics include:

Social life:

  • Greetings (gaisuwa)
  • Respect (girmamawa)
  • Hospitality (karimci)
  • Family life (iyali)

Life events:

  • Marriage (aure)
  • Birth and naming (haihuwa, suna)
  • Death customs (mutuwa)

Traditional beliefs:

  • Superstitions (camfi, bori, tsibbu)

Occupations:

  • Farming, weaving, dyeing, blacksmithing, trading, etc.

Traditional authority:

  • Sarki, Hakimi, Dagaci, Mai Unguwa

Recreation:

  • Dambe, Kokawa, and other games

MARKING GUIDE

  • Composition: 25 marks
  • Other questions: 75 marks
  • Total: 100 marks (scaled from 160)
