WAEC Yoruba 2 (Essay): Areas Of Concentration 2026/2027

WAEC Yoruba 2 (Essay) Areas Of Concentration 2026/2027: For the essay/literature exam, candidates should focus on compulsory prose, poetry, and drama texts designated for 2026-2030, alongside mastery of essay writing, letter writing, and translation techniques. Key areas include in-depth analysis of characters, themes, and literary devices in the new books, alongside traditional Yoruba oral literature (awẹ́wì) and culture.

The content for Paper 1 is the same as that of Paper 2, while Section B includes questions based on the prescribed texts, except for those on basic principles of literary appreciation. Paper 2 consists of essay-type questions covering language, literature, and culture, divided into Sections A, B, and C, with a total duration of two hours and 100 marks.

Candidates are required to answer six questions in total: three from Section A, two from Section B, and one from Section C, and all responses must be written in Yoruba using the approved Yoruba orthography and appropriate meta-language.

WAEC Yoruba 2 (Essay): Areas Of Concentration 2026/2027

Section A: Language

This section covers different types of writing such as narrative, descriptive, argumentative, expository, dialogue, debate, and letter writing. It also includes the Yoruba sound system (vowels, consonants, syllables, tones), how sounds are produced, and sound changes like assimilation and elision. Grammar topics include word formation, numerals, parts of speech, sentence structure, and elements like subject, tense, and mood.

Section B: Literature

This includes both oral and written literature in prose, poetry, and drama. For each category, there are set books, and candidates will answer one question from the given options.

Section C: Culture

This focuses on Yoruba customs and traditions such as dressing, games, naming, marriage, funerals, child care, food, and beliefs about God, deities, and ancestors. It also covers social values, occupations, politics, and economic activities.

Selected Texts (2026–2030)

Students will study recommended books on language, oral literature (like folktales, drama, and poetry), and written literature. Some texts are divided by topics or pages to be covered each year from 2026 to 2030.
